Free extension for Chrome and Edge
Cast a browser tab to your Windows PC.
Show a video, a slide deck or a dashboard from Chrome or Edge on the big screen. Castpane Tab Cast sends the tab you are looking at, with its sound, to Castpane on a Windows PC on your network. No Apple device needed.
Free, no account. Chrome or Edge 116 or later on Windows or macOS. Works together with Castpane for Windows.
When it helps
Screen Mirroring covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. The extension adds the computers that cannot use it:
Windows laptops
Send a tab from one Windows PC to another, for example from your laptop to the PC on the TV.
Just one tab
Share a presentation or a video without showing the rest of your screen, your notifications or other tabs.
Mixed rooms
Mac users keep using Screen Mirroring, everyone else casts a tab. One Castpane PC shows whoever is presenting.
How it works
-
Install Castpane on your PC
Get the free Castpane from the Microsoft Store and open it.
-
Pair once
In Castpane on the PC, open Settings and choose Pair a phone, tablet or browser. Click the extension icon and type the PC address and the 6-digit code shown there.
-
Cast a tab
Open the tab you want to show, click the extension icon and choose Cast this tab. Click Stop casting when you are done.
What you get
- Picture and sound of the tab, up to 1920 pixels wide at 30 frames per second.
- While you cast, the sound plays on the PC instead of your computer.
- Remembers your PCs and finds them again when their address changes.
- Free, in nine languages.
Private and encrypted
Only browsers you paired
The PC only accepts browsers that were paired with the code shown on its own screen. You can remove one at any time in Castpane Settings.
Encrypted, on your network
Picture and sound are encrypted and go directly from your browser to the PC on your local network. No server in between.
No account, no tracking
The extension asks only for the permissions to capture the tab you choose, run its capture page and store your pairings. No analytics.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. The extension is free. Castpane on the PC is a free download too. Free download, 15 minutes per connection. A one-time in-app purchase removes the limit.
Can I cast my whole screen?
Not with the extension: it casts one browser tab. To show a whole Mac screen, use Screen Mirroring with Castpane; if the PC does not appear, see Castpane Link for Mac.
Does it work with Netflix and other streaming sites?
Sites with protected video block tab capture, so the PC shows a black picture. More about protected video.
Why does it ask for the PC address?
Browser extensions cannot look up the addresses on your own network, so the first pairing uses the address shown on the PC. After that the extension finds the PC by itself, even when its address changes.
