Frequently asked questions
My PC does not show up in Screen Mirroring. What now?
Open Castpane and click Can't see this PC? to run the connection wizard. It checks the usual causes on the PC. The full checklist is in My iPhone, iPad or Mac can't see my PC.
Can I watch Netflix, Disney+ or the Apple TV app through Castpane?
No. Protected video from apps like Netflix, Disney+ and the Apple TV app cannot be mirrored to Castpane. Apple only sends that video to receivers it has licensed, so every third-party receiver for Windows has this limit, not just Castpane. You usually get sound with a black picture, or the app refuses to play. More about protected video.
Does YouTube work?
Sending video with the AirPlay button inside the YouTube app is being tested. We will only say it works once we have confirmed it.
Is sound included, or is it an extra purchase?
Sound is included. There is no audio add-on and no second app to install for sound. There is also an audio-only mode if you only want to play sound through the PC.
How much does it cost? Is it a subscription?
One-time purchase. Free trial. You buy it once through the Microsoft Store. No subscription and no watermark. The free trial lets you check that it works on your network before you pay.
Will it ask me to rate the app?
No. Castpane never shows a "rate us" popup and nothing is locked behind a rating.
Do I need to install anything on my iPhone, iPad or Mac?
Usually not. Your device uses its built-in Screen Mirroring. If your Mac cannot see the PC because the network blocks part of the discovery traffic, the free Castpane Link menu bar helper fixes that. There is no helper for iPhone or iPad, because iOS does not allow one.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, installed through the Microsoft Store.
What happens if the connection drops?
Castpane recovers by itself and the PC stays in your Screen Mirroring list, so you can pick it again straight away. More about disconnects.
Does Castpane collect any data?
No. The app and the Mac helper send nothing anywhere except your own devices on your local network. Purchases and the trial are handled by the Microsoft Store. See the privacy policy.
