Install the app
Castpane Link for Android is downloaded from this website as an APK file, not from Google Play. Installing it takes three steps.

Download
Open this page on your phone or tablet and tap the download button. Your browser may warn that this type of file can harm your device; it shows that for every app that does not come from a store.

Open the downloaded file. The first time, Android asks whether your browser may install apps: turn on Allow from this source, go back and tap Install.

How it works

Install Castpane on your PC
Get the free Castpane from the Microsoft Store and open it.

Pair once
In Castpane on the PC, open Settings and click Pair a phone, tablet or browser. Scan the QR code with Castpane Link, or tap the PC in the app and type the 6-digit code.

Start mirroring
Tap your PC, tap Start Mirroring and allow screen sharing. To stop, tap Stop Mirroring in the app or Stop in the notification.
What you get

Your phone and the PC must be able to reach each other. Guest and hotel Wi-Fi often block traffic between devices (client isolation); then use a phone hotspot instead.
Private and encrypted
Only devices you paired
The PC only accepts devices that were paired with the code shown on its own screen. You can remove a device at any time.
Encrypted, on your network
Screen and sound travel encrypted, directly from your phone to the PC on your local network. No server in between.
Only the permissions it needs
Camera for the QR code, screen sharing each time you start, notifications for the Stop button, and audio recording, which Android requires to capture the sound of apps. No account, no analytics, no ads.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Castpane Link for Android is free, without ads and without anything to buy inside it. Castpane on the PC is a free download too. Free download, 15 minutes per connection. A one-time in-app purchase of $6.99 removes the limit.
Why is it not on Google Play?
We publish the Android app on this website first, so it is available on phones without Google services too. It is signed by Castpane and registered with Google under Android developer verification, so Android installs it as an app from a verified developer. Android only installs an update over it when the update carries the same signature.
Is the sound of every app sent?
The sound of most apps, such as videos, music and games. Some apps do not allow their sound to be captured, and phone calls are never sent. Turn sound off in the app settings if you only want the picture.
Can I watch Netflix or other streaming apps through it?
No. Streaming apps with protected video block screen sharing, so the PC shows a black picture. More about protected video.
Can I control the phone from the PC?
No. Castpane shows your screen and plays its sound on the PC; you keep using the phone itself.
