Mirroring works but there is no sound
Sound is part of Castpane. There is no audio upgrade to buy and nothing else to install. If the picture arrives but you hear nothing, one of these settings is usually the reason.
On the PC
- Output device: open Settings, then System, then Sound, and check that Output is the speakers or headphones you are listening to. Bluetooth headphones that disconnected can leave Windows playing to a device you cannot hear.
- Volume mixer: right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar, open the volume mixer, and make sure Castpane is not muted or turned all the way down.
On iPhone or iPad
- Turn the volume up with the side buttons while mirroring. The volume on the device controls the volume sent to the PC.
- Some apps and games stay quiet when the iPhone is in silent mode. Turn silent mode off and try again.
- If the app you are using plays to Bluetooth headphones or another speaker, sound goes there instead. Check the audio output in Control Center.
On a Mac
- While mirroring, open Control Center, then Sound, and check that the output is your PC's name if you want the sound on the PC.
- Check that the Mac's volume is not muted.
Streaming apps
Protected video from apps like Netflix or the Apple TV app cannot be mirrored to any third-party receiver. Depending on the app you may get no picture, no sound, or both. See why streaming apps show a black screen.
Only want sound?
Castpane has an audio-only mode for when you just want to play music or a podcast through the PC's speakers without a video window.
