Mirroring stops or disconnects
A dropped connection should not mean restarting anything. Here is what Castpane does after a drop, and what usually causes them.
What Castpane does
- When a session drops, Castpane resets it and recovers by itself.
- The PC stays in your Screen Mirroring list the whole time. A receiver vanishing from the list after a drop is a known problem with other receivers; Castpane is built to avoid it.
- To reconnect, open Screen Mirroring on your device and pick the PC again.
Common causes
The PC went to sleep
A sleeping PC cannot receive. While you mirror for long periods, set Windows to stay awake: open Settings, then System, then Power (Power & battery on laptops), and set the screen and sleep times to longer values. On a laptop, plugging it in helps.
Weak or busy Wi-Fi
Mirroring sends a steady video stream. Move closer to the router, prefer 5 GHz over 2.4 GHz, or connect the PC to the router with an Ethernet cable. A wired PC leaves the Wi-Fi to your phone or Mac.
Wi-Fi power saving on the PC
Some laptops save power by throttling the Wi-Fi adapter on battery. Plug in, or choose a power mode that favours performance while mirroring.
The sending device stopped mirroring
Locking the iPhone or iPad, or another app taking over the screen, can end mirroring on the device side. Unlock it and pick the PC again in Screen Mirroring.
The network changed
If either device switches networks, for example from Wi-Fi to an extender or to mobile data, the session ends. Check both are still on the same network, as described in the connection guide.
Still dropping?
Run the connection wizard with the Can't see this PC? button in Castpane, then contact support with your Windows version, the device and its iOS or macOS version, and roughly how long mirroring lasts before it drops.
